Maximianus, first reign, 286-305. Antoninianus (Bronze, 22 mm, 4.35 g, 6 h), Lugdunum, 287-289. IMP C MAXIMIANVS P AVG Radiate bust of Maximianus to left, in the guise of Hercules, holding club over his right shoulder and wearing lion skin over his left, and with balteus across his chest. Rev. HERCVLI INVICTO AVGG Hercules standing front, head to left, holding Victory on globe in his right hand and club set on ground with his left; lion skin draped over his left arm; in field to left, S. Bastien 186. Cohen 263. RIC 369. Rare and with an exceptional bust type. Very light porosity and the obverse a bit weak, otherwise, extremely fine.
