External Cataloguers for Ancient or World Coins

We are looking for a dedicated numismatists specializing in ancient or medieval/modern coins to help us identify and catalogue coins for our floor and web auctions.
 
You don't have to move to Switzerland to fill this position, you can work comfortably from home!

What we are looking for:

  • English as mother tongue or second language. We will only consider applicants with excellent command of English
  • Access to a numismatic library with all the important works on world coins
  • Extensive experience as a numismatist in the coin trade
  • Very good knowledge in the areas of world coins, particularly European coins from the Middle Ages, the Renaissance, and the modern era, as well as American coins
  • Good computer skills (description database accessible via website)
  • Ability of correctly identifying and accurately describing coins
  • Proven track record of scientifically correct research and work
  • Adherence to deadlines
  • Commitment and resilience in stressful situations
  • Ability to communicate and work in a team

Senior Numismatist (100%) - Specialist in Ancient Coins (Greek, Roman, Byzantine)

Leu Numismatik AG is a leading auction house specializing in ancient, medieval, and modern coins. We are seeking a full-time Senior Numismatist to join our team in Winterthur at the earliest possible date. The primary responsibility of this role is the detailed cataloging and description of ancient coins, particularly those from the fields of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine numismatics. Additionally, the position involves various other numismatic tasks related to our auctions.

Your Responsibilities

  • Detailed cataloging and description of ancient coins (Greek, Roman, Byzantine) in English
  • Research using the company’s library and numismatic literature
  • Welcoming and assisting clients
  • Representation and consultation at coin fairs and numismatic events
  • Assisting in the preparation and execution of auctions


Your Profile

  • Extensive experience as a numismatist, particularly in ancient coinage
  • Excellent knowledge of Greek, Roman, and Byzantine numismatics
  • Additional expertise in other areas such as Celtic, Indian, Islamic, or early medieval numismatics is welcome, though the primary focus remains on the aforementioned fields
  • English as a first or second language (excellent written and spoken proficiency required)
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills, with a structured working approach
  • Resilience and flexibility, especially during intensive auction phases
  • Full-time on-site presence in our Winterthur office is required
