Lot 2285
SELEUKID KINGS. Antiochos I Soter, 281-261 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 16.44 g, 12 h), a contemporary imitation, irregular mint. Diademed head of Antiochos I (?) to right, with ram's horn over his ear. Rev. ΒΛΣΙΑΕ[ΩΣ] / VИΤΙΟΧΟΥ Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding arrow in his right hand and resting his left on grounded bow. SC -. Darkly toned. A very unusual piece. Minor marks and light deposits and with a small test cut on the edge, otherwise, nearly very fine.

In this highly interesting imitation, an Ammon horn has been added to Antiochos’ portrait, adopting a motif taken from the silver coinage of Lysimachos.
