Seljuks. Great Seljuk. Jalal al-Dawlah Malikshah I, AH 465-485 / AD 1072-1092. Fals (Bronze, 20 mm, 1.39 g, 1 h), struck under Atābeg Arslān Tegīn, Dvin (in Armenia). The word ‘Tikīn’ (‘Tegīn’ in Arabic) is legible on the obverse. Rev. Citing Malikshah I as ‘Abu’l-Fatḥ’ and the heir apparent as ‘Dāwūd ibn Maḥ[mūd]’. Akopyan, type 15. Extremely rare. Halved, otherwise, very fine.


This enigmatic coin is connected to the presence of the Great Seljuks in Armenia. A proposed reading of the obverse reads: 'Arslan Tegin' (in Arabic).
