A cast bronze 'antoninianus' of Diva Mariniana

Diva Mariniana, died before 253. 'Antoninianus' (Bronze, 21 mm, 4.36 g, 11 h), a contemporary cast imitation ('limes-falsum'). Irregular mint, imitating Rome, after circa 254-256. DIVAE MARINIANAE Veiled and draped bust of Diva Mariniana set on crescent to right. Rev. CONSECRATIO Diva Mariniana, raising her right hand and holding scepter in her left, reclining left on peacock flying upward to right. Cf. Cohen 16, MIR 220b and RIC 6 (for prototype). Attractive earthen highlights on a dark patina. Very fine.


The piece was not struck in silver, but cast in bronze. It is a contemporary imitation.
