LESBOS. Mytilene. Circa 521-478 BC. Hekte (Electrum, 10 mm, 2.56 g, 9 h). Facing gorgoneion with protruding tongue. Rev. Incuse head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress; behind neck, small incuse square. BMC 14. Bodenstedt 19.1. Boston MFA 1675. HGC 6, 944. SNG Lockett 2756. SNG von Aulock 1691. Well centered and with a particularly ferocious gorgoneion. A few tiny marks, otherwise, about extremely fine.
