Diademed head of Demetrios I to right within laurel wreath. Rev. ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΔHMHTPIOY Tyche, holding scepter in her right hand and cornucopiae in her left, seated left on throne supported by tritoness right; to left, monogram of ΠAΥ. SC 1620.2. SMA 91. Very rare. Lightly toned and with a beautiful and unusual portrait. Nearly extremely fine.



The portrait on the very rare tetradrachms of this issue is characterized by a highly unusual depiction of Demetrios' hair, as it forgoes the otherwise obligatory anastolé in the tradition of imitatio Alexandri and instead falls evenly onto the forehead like bangs.
