A very rare trichalkon of Hieron II

SICILY. Syracuse. Hieron II, 275-215 BC. Trichalkon (Silver, 10 mm, 0.78 g, 5 h), circa 216-215/4. Head of Athena to left, wearing crested Corinthian helmet. Rev. ΣYPAKOΣIO[I] Large X III with three pellets to left; below, AΦ. BMC 668. CCO 321 (D3/R5). HGC 2, 1426. SNG ANS 907. Very rare. Slightly rough and minor marks and with small die breaks on the reverse, otherwise, very fine.

This very rare issue carries value marks in the form of three pellets and the legend X III, both of which denote it as a trichalkon.
