PERSIA, Achaemenid Empire. Time of Darios II to Artaxerxes II, circa 420-375 BC. Siglos (Silver, 15 mm, 5.56 g), Lydo-Milesian standard, Sardes or subsidiary mint. Persian king or hero in kneeling/running stance to right, holding spear in his right hand and bow in his left. Rev. Rectangular incuse punch. BMC Arabia pl. XXV, 15-6. Carradice Type IIIb C and pl. XIV, 39. Faint marks and with minor weakness on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.

From the collection of Kurt Zimmermann (* 1937) of Winterthur, long-serving numismatist at Schweizerische Kreditanstalt and Leu Numismatik, privately acquired from C. Ceylan (Athena) in December 1978.
