An unusual imitation of an Antoninianus of Probus with a reverse of Gallienus

Probus, 276-282. Antoninianus (Bronze, 19 mm, 2.34 g, 3 h), a contemporary imitation, irregular mint, after 282. IMP PROB[VS P F AV]G Radiate and cuirassed bust of Probus to left. Rev. SOLI CO[NS AVG] Winged horse springing right. Somewhat smoothed and with minor traces of corrosion, otherwise, about very fine.


This very interesting and highly unusual imitation combines an obverse of Probus from the mint of Siscia with a reverse used for Gallienus from the Rome mint.
