The wrong reverse legend
Lot 1944
Gordian III, 238-244. Antoninianus (Silver, 23 mm, 3.85 g, 12 h), Rome, 243-244. IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust of Gordian III to right, seen from behind. Rev. FORT REDVX (sic!) Victory standing front, head to left, holding palm frond in her left hand and placing her right on shield set on ground; at feet to left, captive seated left in attitude of mourning. Cohen 95. Michaux 436 (same reverse die). Numisfitz E-Auction 3 (2023), 861 (same reverse die). RIC 247A. Lightly toned. Extremely rare with this interesting engraver's error on the reverse. Slightly rough, otherwise, about extremely fine.

The correct reverse legend for this type would be VICTOR AETER, VICTORIA AETER, or VICTORIA AETERNA (RIC 154-156). The die engraver has here confused the legend with the REDVX of FORTVNA REDVX.
