A beautifully preserved imitation

Gallienus, 253-268. Antoninianus (Silver, 21 mm, 3.57 g, 12 h), a contemporary imitation. Irregular mint, after 256. IMP GALLIENVS•P•F•AVG Radiate and cuirassed bust of Gallienus to right. Rev. PAX AVGG Pax standing front, head to left, holding branch in her right hand and scepter in her left. A very well engraved and beautifully preserved imitation. Struck from slightly worn dies, otherwise, good extremely fine.

From the Rhenus Collection of Antoniniani, covering the period from the reign of Caracalla to that of Postumus.
This very unusual imitation combines an avers type from the mint of Cologne with a reverse from an early emission of the Rome mint (cf. RIC 155)
