Judaica PHILISTIA. Azotos (Ashdod). Circa 420-350 BCE. Mʿh = Obol (Silver, 11 mm, 0.84 g, 12 h). Janiform head composed of a bearded male head to left and a female head to right. Rev. Recumbent bovine right, head turned back to left, an owl concealed within its body; below, two confronted ram heads; above, 𐡔 (Š in Aramaic); all within dotted square border within incuse square. Gitler & Tal II.5Ob corr. (this coin, but with dotted circular border). Hendin -. Jeselsohn 14 corr. (same dies, but with dotted circular border and with 𐡔 not 𐡔𐡃𐡃 on the reverse). Shoshana -. Sofaer -. Extremely rare. Struck on an exceptionally broad flan and with an unusually complete reverse. The obverse struck slightly off center and with traces of overstriking, and the reverse somewhat double struck, otherwise, good very fine.
