Judaica JUDAEA, Bar Kokhba War. 132-136 CE. Zuz = Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 2.49 g, 6 h), irregular coinage. Uncertain mint. Undated, but attributed to Year 3 = 134/5 CE. 𐤔𐤌𐤏 (‘Šimʿ’ in Paleo-Hebrew) Grape bunch on vine. Rev. 𐤋𐤇𐤓𐤅𐤕 𐤅𐤔𐤋𐤌 (sic!) ('For the Freedom of Jerusalem' in blundered Paleo-Hebrew) Palm frond curving very slightly to right. Bromberg II 519 (same dies). Hendin 6457a. Meshorer, AJC, 65 (same dies). Mildenberg 246 (O42/R159). Samel -, cf. 2498-2501 (for other irregular zuzim). Shoshana I 20392 (same dies). Sofaer -. Very rare, Mildenberg recorded just three examples. Beautifully toned and in exceptional condition for an irregular zuz. Minor edge splits, otherwise, good extremely fine.
