[DIVA] CLAVD NER F Statue of Diva Claudia standing left on basis within hexastyle temple set on high podium. Bromberg -. Hendin 6300. Meshorer, AJC -. Meshorer, Caesarea, pl. 7, H. RPC I 4846. Samel -. Shoshana I 20150. Sofaer 87. An unusually complete example. Repatinated and the reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, very fine.

Privately acquired from UBS in June 2001, and previously privately acquired from Steve Rubinger (Antiqua, with original ticket).

Claudia Augusta, the infant daughter of Nero and Poppaea, was born in 63 CE, died before reaching four months of age, and was promptly deified; her mother died during another pregnancy in 65 CE. This is the only known coin type honouring Diva Claudia. It was probably struck at Caesarea Paneas, Agrippa II’s capital, and – although it does not name him – underscores his close ties to the Neronian dynasty.
