This issue bears no regnal date, but it was probably the large denomination accompanying the coins of Tiberius (Hendin 6259; RPC I 4948) and Livia (Hendin 6262; RPC I 4949), both dated to regnal year 34 of Herod IV, and should therefore likewise be dated to 30/1 CE. This is of particular interest because the two principal dates proposed for the crucifixion of Jesus are 30 and 33 CE (see lots 192-193 above). The coin may thus have been struck contemporary to the earlier of these two proposed dates.
