SOUTHERN LEVANT. Athenian-styled Imitations. Circa early 340s-300 BCE. Rbʾ Šql = Drachm (Silver, 15 mm, 3.98 g, 1 h). Head of Athena to right, wearing crested Attic helmet decorated with three olive leaves and palmette. Rev. Owl standing right, head facing; to left, olive sprig and crescent; to right, Α☉Ε. Cf. Gitler & Tal IX.1D (earlier style). Beautifully toned. Struck on a compact flan, otherwise, very fine.



This drachm lacks an additional control mark or letter that would permit a secure attribution. Its clearly imitative style points to the second half of the 4th century BCE, while its close similarity to Gitler & Tal XI.5T suggests a Philistian origin.
