Judaica PHILISTIA. Askalon (Ashkelon). Circa 420-350 BCE. Rbʾ Šql = Drachm (Silver, 16 mm, 3.48 g, 3 h). Female head to right, the hair drawn back and tied into a ponytail. Rev. Owl standing facing, wings spread; to upper left, 𐤍𐤀 (ʾN in retrograde Phoenician); to upper right, Udjat eye; above the owl's head, hieroglyphic sign for a ripple of water (?); lotus buds on four sides; all within incuse square. The reverse, with its facing owl with spreads wings, derives from the famous Athenian dekadrachm (cf. Leu 21 (2026), 150).
