CYPRUS. Kition. Baalmelek II, circa 425-400 BC. Stater (Silver, 24 mm, 11.00 g, 6 h). Herakles in fighting stance to right, wearing lion skin, holding club overhead in right hand and bow extended before him in left hand; to right, ankh symbol. Rev. Lion attacking stag right; all within dotted border within incuse square. BMC 35. Sunrise 110. Tziambazis 19. Struck on an unusually broad and complete flan. Traces of overstriking, otherwise, very fine.

This interesting piece was overstruck on a stater of Aegina, as indicated by the clear traces of the typical Aeginetan skew-pattern incuse square still visible on the obverse.
