From July 31 to August 2, 1969, Pope Paul VI made a historic vitsit to Uganda, becoming the first sitting pope to visit Africa. Over the course of the three-day visit, he consecrated twelve African bishops, paid homage at the Namugongo Martyrs Shrine, and held meetings with both government representatives and religious leaders.
