From a German Collection of Patterns and Mint Errors.

Presumably recovered from the rubble of the Stuttgart Mint, bombed and gutted by fire in 1944, were various trial strikes, patterns, and other rare products of Stuttgart’s minting history (see Lot 4979 and 4994 below) that had been preserved in the archives of this important mint. From this cache also comes the present extraordinary 5 Mark piece, featuring a raised rim and edge lettering with thin reeding.
