Lot 4671
GERMANY. Bayern. Maximilian II, 1848-1864. Doppelter Vereinstaler (Lead-Tin, 41 mm, 5.80 g), uniface obverse trial strike, München (Munich), no date (1858-1860). MAXIMILIAN II - KŒNIG V. BAYERN Bare head of Maximilian II to right. Rev. blank. Cf. AKS 147, Davenport 607 and Jaeger 95 (for prototype see note below). Very rare. Tiny deposits and some residues on the reverse, otherwise, good extremely fine.

From a German Collection of Patterns and Mint Errors.

This obverse design by Carl Friedrich Voigt was already used for the Geschichtstaler in 1848 (Jaeger 86 and 87), 1849 (Jaeger 88), 1854 (Jaeger 89), 1856 (Jaeger 90) and for the first design of the Doppelter Vereinstaler from 1849-1856 (Jaeger 85), but is attributed to the later version of the Doppelter Vereinstaler from 1859-1860 (Jaeger 95) due to the fact that it surfaced with the uniface reverse trial strike of this type with the unedited 1858 date.
