From the Dr. Chris Liassides Collection of World Coins.

In 1967, during the Anguillan secession from the associated state of Saint Christopher-Nevis-Anguilla, foreign crown size silver coins were countermarked to symbolize the island’s political break and emerging self-governance.

Because they were produced under improvised conditions and in limited quantities, substantial variation exists among surviving specimens, making them especially intriguing. Today, they are regarded not only as emergency monetary issues, but also as tangible artifacts of Anguilla’s brief revolutionary period and assertion of political identity.
