Lot 4183
Ottoman Empire. 'Abd al-'Aziz, AH 1277-1293 / AD 1861-1876. Quirsh AH 1277, RY 10 = AD 1870 (Silver, 17 mm, 1.23 g, 12 h), Misr (Cairo). Ṭughrā of ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz; floral design; denomination 1sh (1 qirsh) below. Rev. In field: Regnal year 10 above, ḍuriba fī Miṣr / ۱۲۷۷ (‘Struck in Miṣr in the year 1277’ in Arabic). KM 250a. An attractive example with clear legends and a well-defined ṭughrā. In NGC encapsulation, graded MS 63. Only one coin graded higher. Small areas of weakness, otherwise, good extremely fine.

Silver coinage of ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz struck in Egypt forms part of the late Ottoman provincial monetary system, where Cairo (Miṣr) continued to operate as a major mint under imperial authority. These issues combine the imperial ṭughrā with clear mint and date formulas, maintaining long-standing Ottoman numismatic traditions while serving the increasingly monetized economy of 19th-century Egypt.

Coins of this type are often encountered with areas of weakness. Well-preserved Mint State examples with clear inscriptions and minimal marks are therefore desirable, particularly when certified at this level.
