This rare anonymous gold issue belongs to the early Mongol period in Iran and Central Asia, preceding or overlapping the establishment of formal Ilkhanid coinage under Hülegü. The inscription qāʾān al-ʿādil (‘the Just Qaʾān’) refers not to a named Ilkhanid ruler, but to the supreme Mongol Great Khan, reflecting the political structure of the empire before the full development of regional titles.
