The reign of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān III marks the full assertion of Umayyad caliphal authority in al-Andalus. After assuming the title of caliph in AH 316 / AD 929, his coinage adopted an explicitly caliphal language, including the titles al-imām, al-Nāṣir li-dīn Allāh, and amīr al-muʾminīn.

The official Qāsim [ibn Khālid], named in the obverse field, supervised the Andalusi mint during AH 330-332. Contemporary sources associate his administration with the so-called ‘Qāsimid’ issues, a distinct phase within the silver coinage of ʿAbd al-Raḥmān III. These emissions belong to a period of monetary reorganization following the dismissal of the previous mint official Saʿīd ibn Yassas.

The present issue therefore combines both political and administrative significance, linking the mature caliphal coinage of Córdoba with an identifiable phase of mint reform under Qāsim ibn Khālid.
