Umayyad Caliphate. temp. 'Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan, AH 65-86 / AD 685-705. Drachm (Silver, 30 mm, 3.13 g, 9 h), Arab-Armenian type, citing governor Muḥammad [ibn Marwān] (circa AH 75–78 / AD 694–697). Draped bust resembling Khosrau II to right, wearing an elaborate winged crown; behind head, ‘GDE / ʾp̄zwt’ (‘[may his] glory increase’ in Pahlavi); before head, ‘mhmt’ = ‘Mahmad’ (‘Muhammad’ in Pahlavi); in the outer margin, ‘wāf’ (‘full’ in Arabic). Rev. Fire altar with ribbons, flanked by two attendants; above altar, star and crescent; to left, blundered date in Pahlavi, probably ‘ALB[A]’ = ‘čahār’ (‘four’); to right, blundered mint signature in Pahlavi, probably AY(?). Album E97. Zeno 113040. Very rare and lightly toned. A small grfitto on the obverse, minor deposits and some doubling, otherwise, good very fine.
