ISLANDS OFF THRACE, Thasos. Circa 168/7-148 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 36 mm, 17.00 g, 11 h). Head of youthful Dionysos to right, wearing tainia and wreath of ivy and fruit. Rev. HΡAKΛEOΥΣ - ΣΩTHΡOΣ / ΘAΣIΩN Herakles standing front, head to left, holding club in his right hand and with lion's skin draped over his left arm and quiver over his shoulder; in inner left field, M. Dewing 1337 (same obverse die). HGC 6, 358. Prokopov Group IV, Class D, 35 (V D2/R 31). SNG Ashmolean 3677 (same obverse die). A nicely toned example of excellent early style, with a wonderful reverse. The obverse a bit weak and with very light doubling on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
