This extremely rare 50 Pfennig pattern of the early Weimar Republic reflects the transitional nature of Germany immediately after the collapse of the German Empire. Minted during the uncertain months following the German Revolution of 1918-1919, the proposed coin closely followed the design of the imperial 25 Pfennig (Jaeger 18).
