GERMANY. Cham (herzogliche Münzstätte). Heinrich IV, 995-1004. Denar (Silver, 22 mm, 1.42 g, 9 h), first period, June 1002-May 1009. ✠ HENRICVS REX Cross pattée with annulet, wedge and three pellets in angles. Rev.CPAMPA CIVITAS Temple with HECIL in center. Dannenberg 1109. Hahn 80a1.1. Extremely rare and nicely toned. Somewhat crinkled and with minor cracks, otherwise, very fine.

From the Castra Regina Collection.

The highly sought-after denarii of this type bear witness to the very brief period of minting activity in Cham. In this Upper Palatinate town, coins were struck during the Ottonian period only between 985 and 1009. Compared with issues from Regensburg or Augsburg, the output of the Cham mint must have been exceedingly small.
