SICILY. Syracuse. Pyrrhos, 278-276 BC. AE (Bronze, 24 mm, 11.82 g, 12 h). ΣYPAKOΣIΩN Head of Herakles to left, wearing lion skin headdress; to right, club. Rev. Athena Promachos advancing right, holding thunderbolt in her right hand and shield in her left; in field to left, wreath. CNS II 177. HGC 2, 1450. SNG ANS 845. SNG Copenhagen 812. A lovely coin with an attractive reddish brown patina. Peripheral roughness, otherwise, extremely fine.
