Hyperpyron (Gold, 28 mm, 4.25 g, 5 h), Thessalonica, 1137-1143. +ΚЄ ROHΘЄI Christ, nimbate, seated facing on square-backed throne, wearing tunic and pallium, holding book of Gospels in his left hand; in fields, IC - XC. Rev. IⲰ / ΔЄC/ΠΟ/TH On the left, John II standing facing, wearing crown and loros, holding globus cruciger in his left hand; on the right, the Virgin, wearing robes and maphorion, standing facing and crowning the emperor with her right hand; in field, ΘV - MP flanking Virgin's head. DOC 7a. SB 1949. Nicely toned. Light die shift and minor flan fault on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.
