A lovely coin with a splendid portrait in the finest early Rome mint style. Very light doubling and minor deposits on the reverse, otherwise, good very fine.



Little is known about Moritz Simon, and even his exact birth and death dates are unknown. He is documented in Berlin between about 1897 and 1933, and from 1910 onwards was the proprietor of the wholesale coal firm Hermann Sontag Nachfolger. He also served as treasurer of the Soncino Society of Friends of the Jewish Book, founded in 1924. As Simon auctioned his collection of ancient coins at Cahn in 1930 and his company was liquidated in 1934, he likely died during those years or soon thereafter.
