Dinar (Gold, 20 mm, 8.18 g, 12 h), 'horseman' type. ๐‘€•๐‘€ผ๐‘€ง๐‘†๐‘€ข๐‘€“๐‘€ผ๐‘€ฎ๐‘€ฏ๐‘†๐‘€ฌ๐‘„๐‘€ซ๐‘€ฐ๐‘€ฐ๐‘€ป ๐‘€š๐‘€ฌ๐‘€ข๐‘†๐‘€ฏ๐‘€š๐‘‚๐‘€ฌ๐‘„ ๐‘€š๐‘€บ๐‘€ข๐‘€ซ๐‘€ณ๐‘‚๐‘€ฆ๐‘†๐‘€ค๐‘†๐‘€ญ๐‘€‚ (GUPTAKULAVYOMAลšAลšฤช JAYATVAJEYO JITAMAHENDRAแธค = 'The unconquered and invincible Mahendra, who is like the moon in the sky of Gupta family, is victorious' in Brahmi) Kumaragupta I, nimbate, riding on horseback to right, holding bow in his left hand, with bowstring facing forward. Rev. ๐‘€…๐‘€š๐‘€บ๐‘€ข๐‘€ซ๐‘€ณ๐‘‚๐‘€ฆ๐‘†๐‘€ค๐‘†๐‘€ญ๐‘€‚ (AJITAMAHENDRAแธค = 'Invincible Mahendra' in Brahmi) Nimbate Goddess (Lakshmi?) seated to left on throne, feeding peacock standing to right before her with her right hand and holding lotus flower in her left. BMC Guptas 219-25 and p. 74. Kumar p. 313, Class III, Variety A. A wonderful piece, very well struck on an unusually broad flan and with full legends. Very minor doubling, otherwise, about extremely fine.
