BAKTRIA, Greco-Baktrian Kingdom. Eukratides I, circa 170-145 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 33 mm, 17.00 g, 1 h), Aï Khanoum (?), circa 162-145. Diademed and heroically nude bust of Eukratides I to left, wearing Macedonian helmet adorned with bull's horn and ear and brandishing spear in his right hand. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ MEΓAΛOΥ / EΥKΡATIΔOΥ The Dioskouri galloping to right, each holding spear in his right hand and palm branch in his left; in field to lower right, monogram. Bopearachchi Série 8B. HGC 12, 132. MIG Type 179a. SNG ANS 485. A bold and nicely toned example of this impressive issue with a splendid heroic portrait. A few minor marks, otherwise, good very fine.
