BAΣIΛEΩΣ - ANTIOXOY Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding bow in his right hand and resting his left on omphalos; in outer left field, [A]I; in exergue, K. HGC 9, 128c. SC 327. WSM 1470. Beautifully toned, with a splendid portrait and a wonderful Apollo, an excellent piece of the finest western style. A few tiny marks, otherwise, extremely fine.

From the collection of Walter Weise, Künker 347, 22 March 2021, 766 and ex Spink 94, 14 October 1992, 130.

The early Seleukid coinage from Asia Minor produced some of the finest Hellenistic royal issues. The present piece undoubtedly ranks among them. Struck at Magnesia on the Maeander, it is remarkable not only for its outstanding portrait but also for the extraordinarily delicate and distinctly feminine rendering of Apollo seated on the omphalos.
