LOWER DANUBE. Imitations of Thasos. Late 2nd-1st Centuries BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 31 mm, 17.00 g, 12 h). Celticized head of Dionysos to right, wearing wreath of ivy and fruit and with a herringbone pattern across the cheek. Rev. Celticized Herakles standing front, head to right, holding club in his left hand and lion skin in his right; in inner right field, four pellets; imitative legend around. Dembski -. Flesche -. Lanz -. Cf. Lukanc 1272. OTA Class III/A.3. A very rare variety. Beautifully toned and boldly struck. Nearly extremely fine.
