KINGS OF MACEDON. Alexander III ‘the Great’, 336-323 BC. Drachm (Silver, 17 mm, 4.28 g, 12 h), Sardes, struck under Menander, circa 323/2. Head of Herakles to right, wearing lion skin headdress. Rev. [A]ΛEΞANΔ[POY] Zeus seated left on low throne, holding long scepter in his left hand and eagle standing right with closed wings in his right; to left, monogram above torch. ADM I, Series XIII, 182-8. Price 2599. Sharply struck in high relief, lustrous and nicely toned, a very attractive example of fine style. Tiny marks and a small bump on the reverse edge, otherwise, virtually as struck.
