An extremely rare Pattern 1/2 Mark 1905 D
Lot 701
GERMANY. Kaiserreich. Bayern. Otto, 1886-1913. Pattern 1/2 Mark 1905 D (Silver, 20 mm, 2.78 g, 12 h), with coarsely reeded edge. München (Munich). Imperial eagle within wreath, D below. Rev. DEUTSCHES REICH around 1/2 / MARK within wreath, 1905 below. Beckenbauer 3107. Schaaf 16 G24. Extremely rare and nicely toned. Proof.

German mints occasionally experimented with 50 Pfennig and 1/2 Mark pattern strikes with irregular, broader, thinner, or wavy edge reeding, differing noticeably from the precise and uniform milling of regular circulation issues. Several unique variations with unusual edge characteristics have survived.
