KINGS OF MACEDON. Philip II, 359-336 BC. Stater (Gold, 18 mm, 8.62 g, 9 h), Pella, struck under Antipater, Polyperchon, or Kassander, circa 323/2-315. Laureate head of Apollo to right. Rev. ΦΙΛΙΠΠOY Charioteer driving galloping biga to right, holding goad in his right hand and reins in his left; below horses, thunderbolt. Le Rider pl. 66, 407 (D180/R301). SNG ANS 166 (same dies). Struck in high relief and with lovely reddish toning. Minor marks, otherwise, good very fine.

From an old collection, privately acquired from Spink & Son and previously acquired from Forrer in March 1947 for £47 (with original ticket).
