Rev. •1•6•0•8• / ✠S✠I✠I✠I within ornamented wreath, countermark of Engelbert von Brabeck (EVP over three wolftraps) below. KM 404. Weingärtner 5. Weinrich 30a. Deposits, otherwise, host coin very fine, countermark extremely fine.

From the collection of Ronald Wörle (1930-2025), ex Grün 48, 15 November 2007, 2578 (with collector's ticket).

The three wolf’s hooks and the initials in the countermark refer to the bursar Engelbert von Brabeck. In the broadest sense, bursars were financial officials in the service of universities and ecclesiastical institutions, such as, in this case, the cathedral chapter of Münster.

Their duties also included countermarking copper coins in order to confirm their validity within the monetary circulation of these ecclesiastical foundations. Regardless of this, these copper coins also circulated beyond the confines of these institutions.
