This type is attested in both a double-sided format and as a single-sided issue. It is therefore a clear illustration of the parallel production of Dünnpfenige ('thin pennies' in German) and Brakteaten ('bracteates' in German) in the Lake Constance region. Although the two forms circulated side by side during the 12th century, the more practical bracteate fabric gradually prevailed over the course of the 13th century.
