Rev. ✠ NEVERΛIS CVT Cross. Boudeau -. Duplessy 752. Poey d'Avant 2120. Rare. Minor deposits, some doubling and a small edge chip, otherwise, very fine.


As with the Deniers of Nevers (see Lots 3354-3371), the considerably rarer Obols were initially thought to date to the tenth century. Since the time of Poey d’Avant, however, they have been assigned to the eleventh century (cf. Faustin Poey d'Avant: Monnaies féodales de France, Tome I, Paris 1862, p. 311).
