'Abbasid Caliphate. temp. Al-Mansur, AH 136-158 / AD 754-775. Drachm (Silver, 24 mm, 3.08 g, 1 h), Arab-Bukharan type, governor Khalid (circa AH 137-140 / AD 755-758), no date. Within a dotted circle, stylized Sasanian-style crowned bust to right, imitating the Sasanian king Bahram V; behind head, ‘Khālid’ (‘Khalid’ in Arabic); before head, ‘pwxʾr xwβ kʾw’ = ‘Puxār xūβ Kaw’ (‘Bukharan King Kaw’ in Sogdian). Rev. Stylized fire altar flanked by two attendants; stylized bust of Ahura Mazdā to right in the flames. Album T93. Extremely rare. Nicely toned. Some porosity and deposits, otherwise, very fine.
