ΒΑΣΙΛΕΩΣ - ΔHMHTPIOY Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding arrow in his right hand and resting his left on grounded bow; to outer left, monogram of ΠA; in exergue, AN (recut over ΔI). CSE 1071 (same dies). Le Rider, Suse, -. SC 1711.5. Very rare. Nicely toned and with a very attractive portrait struck in high relief on a compact flan. Slightly rough, otherwise, about extremely fine.

From the Basileiai Hellēnikai Collection of Exceptional Tetradrachms, Leu 17, 31 May 2025, 316, from the collection of W. Weise, Künker 347, 22 March 2021, 808 (with collector's ticket), ex Leu 48, 10 May 1989, 259 and Hess-Leu 36, 17 April 1968, 322.

The late Seleukid tetradrachms from Susa are often struck on thick, compact flans. This becomes especially noticeable when compared in hand to those from Antioch: for instance, this piece is only 24 mm wide, whereas Lots 313 and 314 above measure 30-31 mm - despite naturally having the same weight.
