KINGS OF MACEDON. Antigonos II Gonatas, 277/6-239 BC. Tetradrachm (Silver, 28 mm, 17.06 g, 12 h), Amphipolis or Pella, 271/68-260/55 BC. Horned head of Pan to left, wearing goat skin around his neck and with lagobolon behind; all within the center of a Macedonian shield adorned with stars and crescents. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ - ANTIΓONOΥ Athena Alkidemos striding right, holding shield decorated with horned head of Pan in her left hand and brandishing a thunderbolt with her right; to left, desmos; to right, monogram. SNG Alpha Bank -. SNG Copenhagen -. SNG München -. TEA Period I, Group 48, 180 (O35/R170) and pl. 16, 180 (this coin illustrated). Very rare with Athena striding to the right. Lightly toned. Minor marks and with light die rust and a metal flaw on the obverse, otherwise, very fine.
