An exceptionally sharply struck and perfectly preserved mint error
Lot 2413
Tetricus I, Romano-Gallic Emperor, 271-274. Antoninianus (Bronze, 22 mm, 2.46 g), Treveri, circa mid 272-273. IMP TETRIC[VS P F AVG] Radiate and cuirassed bust of Tetricus I to right. Rev. [LA]ETIT[IA] AVGG Laetitia standing front, head to left, holding wreath her right hand and anchor in her left. AGK (corr.) 6b. Cunetio 2645. Elmer 787 ('Cologne'). RIC V.4 770. An exceptionally sharply struck and perfectly preserved mint error. Double struck on a somewhat ragged flan, otherwise, good extremely fine.

A double strike such as this occurs when, after the first clean impression, the coin is not fully removed from the anvil die and is accidentally struck a second time, noticeably off-centered. In this case, only the second impression of the obverse die is visible, while the off centered blow on the reverse left no discernible details except for the circular edge of the reverse die.
