A highly interesting mix of two different minting errors
Lot 2337
L. Julius Bursio, 85 BC. Denarius (Silver, 25 mm, 4.12 g, 10 h), brockage mint error. Rome. Laureate, winged, and draped bust of Apollo Vejovis right; behind, trident and axe-head. Rev. L•IVLI•BVRSIO Victory driving galloping quadriga right, holding reins with her left hand and wreath with her right. Babelon (Julia) 5. Crawford 352/1a. RBW 1347 var. (differing control mark). Sydenham 728. Heavily double struck and brockage mint error, a highly interesting mix of two different minting errors. Good fine.

This fascinating piece shows two major striking errors: the obverse bears a brockage from a second coin, while the reverse displays a pronounced double strike. The coin was struck twice; during the second strike, it shifted noticeably, producing the double strike on the reverse. In that same second strike, another coin slipped between this coin and the obverse die - also with its obverse facing down - leaving a brockage impression of its reverse.
