Lot 2332
L. Titurius L.f. Sabinus, 89 BC. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.89 g, 3 h), Rome. SABIN Bare-headed and bearded head of King Titus Tatius to right. Rev. L•TITVRI Victory in biga to right, holding wreath in her right hand and reins in her left; in exergue, uncertain symbol. Babelon (Tituria) 6. Crawford 344/3. RBW 1303. Sydenham 700. A dramatic minting error. Heavily double struck, otherwise, good fine.

Notably, a particularly high number of misstruck coins were produced under L. Titurius L.f. Sabinus - perhaps a consequence of the disruptions of the Social War (91-87 BC), which likely placed the Rome mint under intense time pressure and led to a slackening of quality control.
