An amusing obverse legend
Lot 2297
EGYPT. Alexandria. Claudius II Gothicus, 268-270. Tetradrachm (Potin, 22 mm, 10.22 g, 12 h), RY 3 = 270. AΥT K KΛAΥΔIOC CЄB Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Claudius II to right, seen from behind. Rev. L - Γ Eagle with closed wings standing right, head to left and holding wreath in beak. Dattari (Savio) 5416. Emmett 3878.3. K&G 104.33. RPC X online ID 75635. Light deposits and with a very minor spot of corrosion on the reverse, otherwise, extremely fine.

The obverse legend of this piece is particularly amusing: from the O onward, the letters grow progressively larger, as if the die engraver were trying to fill the remaining space - only to realize he had forgotten the B, which he then had to squeeze in in tiny lettering.
